Vowing to completely overhaul your diet starting January 1st is overwhelming, stressful, unnecessary and can lead to New Year’s resolution fatigue way faster. THANK GOODNESS there’s so much better for you in 2018 (text Betternutrition to 44222 to get the better nutrition guide FREE right now to your email). Here are ten ways to do better for better results in 2018.
Before you dive in to these ten tips, let’s make sure you are ready for them. Take a moment to inhale, exhale and repeat: “I am not a Health Hot Mess” 5 times. Alright here we go, your 10 ways to better days (in 2018):
January 1: Everyone knows those cocktails and festive liquor combos can make the first morning of the new year feel pretty rough. Sip better the night before – try ringing in the New Year with Brut champagne which contains less sugar than a dry champagne – and you are more likely to wake up January 1 without feeling like you are still ringing in the New Year in your head (ouchy). Have water, coconut water and some avocado too as the water and potassium will help prevent a dehydration inspired headache.
January 2: Time to heal and reset after all the food and beverage treats of 2017! Healing spices are a delicious way to deliver better nutrition. Try turmeric and ginger in an almond milk latte to help promote a healthy inflammatory response and aid digestion, cinnamon in your oatmeal to improve blood sugar control, reduce heartburn and amp up antioxidants or cayenne to boost metabolism.
January 3: You are not what you eat – you are what you digest and absorb! Our digestive tract relies heavily on good bacteria, which are found in probiotics and are essential to any better nutrition tune-up. Today, join now to get the Better Digestion Assessment to see what adjustments your digestive system needs to run better.
January 4: Want better, build your better nutrition plan. Start by assessing your current intake – that means writing down what goes in and on your body more often, how often, and then comparing it with the better nutrition plan. January 5: Learn one new better nutrition recipe you LOVE! Better nutrition better be delicious and learning to make something you find delicious is a better way to start 2018. Scan the Better Nutrition Recipes for a ton of simple and tasty options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Learn to whip up things like turmeric pancakes, hemp pesto and homemade cashew milk. Arm your 2018 recipe arsenal with delicious food that makes you feel good.
January 6: Create a better bedtime routine. So many of us fall asleep surrounded by laptops, TVs, cell phones and tablets. This influx of technology can make unwinding difficult and can make your dreams and sleep less sweet. Darken your room or treat yourself to some silky eye covers to block out any unwanted light. Leave your tech friends to charge in another room to keep your bedroom free of outside intruders such as text message dings or email notifications.
January 7: Your skin is your body’s largest organ, so why not give it a New Year’s reboot as well? What goes on your skin mostly goes into your body so clean out any 2017 products that contain ingredient the EU bans or restricts but that we haven’t gotten to in the US (there’s about 1300 of them!). Shop some of my favorites like dew skin and sugar scrub and hair oil now to have ready for you to kickoff 2018.
January 8: Supplements help you do better, not perfect, more often. Before you grab what you see advertised or a friend taking, assess your current, total nutrition – food, supplements, beverages, and skincare to see what your body really needs to run better. Overwhelmed? Let us do it for you! Have the better nutrition program dietitians build your better supplement plan as part of your gold membership benefits.
January 9: The start of a New Year can also mean new projects at work, new routines to get used to and new stressors to navigate. Turn off stress better with magnesium – your body’s anti-stress nutrient. Check out Natural CALM magnesium as a powder you can turn into a relaxing hot drink, as a bath, and as a cream – there’s even a new version that provides more support for your gut! January 10: Support better detoxification the old fashion way. Eat foods that provide nutrients that support the body’s detoxification and digestive systems Skip the juice cleanses, activated charcoal foods or any other fads, and go back to better – broccoli, oatmeal, lemons and loads of other greens. Make them organic when possible to reduce intake of different, avoidable toxins. Stock up on Nature’s Path organic oatmeal cups to have a delicious grab n’ go option.
