9 engaged couples – this should be the time of their lives…and yet. When I met with the medical team and trainers, I learned, “these guys aren’t just overweight – they are young and they are sick.” And so my first day began with Shedding for the Wedding.
It sounds easy – take the couples out of their home environment, lock them up, train the heck out of them, and feed them – essentially do it all for them and they are bound to lose the weight, right?
Well, at Shedding we don’t believe in the easy way, we believe in the right way – this isn’t about weight loss for 3 months, this about creating healthy lives. We believe that weight loss can’t come at the expense of health. We believe that you can’t do it for them – you can show them the way, you can teach them, support them, be there when they break down – but they have to do the work.
So where does one begin? As the show’s dietitian, I began by making sure that we didn’t just get rid of the junk – we exchanged it for better quality choices (see my blog on “Being a Qualitarian“). I am so lucky that my AKA brands jumped on board to support the Shedders (and even the crew) to send food. Then, we began with the basics – I started with teaching them about how the body works – what fuel and how much it needs to perform efficiently and effectively for weight loss sure, but also for lean body mass gain and for enough energy to survive the long, twice daily workouts.
Are you thinking of shedding? Are you worried about your health, your weight, your energy?
Tune in Wednesdays on the CW at 9pm to see the tranformation in action. And follow me for tips on how to do it at home. Shedding takes commitment – but if you commit, you can change your life …you can ADD time to your life.

This sounds a,along. Losing weight and staying lean is a lifestyle change and commitment for sure. It seems to be a common mistake with most engaged and married couples, the common mistake of getting to comfortable. When we get comfortable, we tend to make lazy choices that seem great at the moment (a Danish for breakfast every morning) but in the end hurt us. Great job Ashley!
